July 1, 2008
Ok, so first off...Wara was in Santa Cruz this whole weekend.
Friday, I was finally feeling better (been sick all last week) and hung out with the volunteers all day. Helped out at an orphanage with two other volunteers. A lot of fun.
Saturday, I did some house work and then went to Patita's grandparents' house for lunch and then back to her's with my sleepover bag and laundry....hehehe.
Saturday night, I went to my first 'boy girl party'...haha lol....the usual college party stuff...smoke, beer, cake, and almost fights....ok so i have NO idea if that's 'usual' cuz I've never been to one...just seen 'em on TV!!! LOL
Sunday, went to the Capilla for the last time.
After church, I went out to eat some silpancho at this nice restaurant before the futbol game. The game was Aurora (Cbba team) vs. WILSTERMAN (Cbba team as well)!! I thought it would be a lot more full since it's Cbba vs. Cbba. but it wasn't that full! Anyway, I was for WILSTERMAN! and the 7 other volunteers that I met up with there were for Aurora. Shame on them!!!! Because one of the doctors (the Gastroenterologist at that!!:)) was the medic for WILSTERMAN!!!! how dare they!!! haha lol Plus, I bought this amazing cheap jersey shirt and cool joker hat...
ok so Aurora won...but still WILSTERMAN IS THE BEST!!!!!! :):):):)
but anyway no one cares!!! haha
yeah so afterward i was able to show the volunteers what ever was left of sunday night...as most of the city is dead at that time....so we went to Brazilian coffee and had their last 5 coxhinhas!!! YUM!
Then, we called don mauel (the HOH trufi driver) and he picked us up. On our way back to the HOH, we saw this huge fire on one of the mountains. and I asked where it was hoping and praying it wasn't my fav. park.....it was! Parque Tunari was on fire!!!!:(
I wish I had a picture of that fire...it was huge, and we were miles away!
at the same time he told me it was my park....I remembered that I had left my brand new wilsterman hat at the cafe!!!! booo
Anyway, life moved on and I will always remember that hat....:)
Monday morning came and I headed to the hospital (HOH by the way).
After work, a few girls wanted to call home and I went with them to show them a cheaper place...Bs. 4 vs. Bs. .50!!! yeah...
Well, I ended up calling Sarah for an hour and a half, and then spending two hours online.....anyway, I went to a store nearby and then headed out.....well tried to.
As I walked out of the store I saw a trufi and I wanted to grab that one....so I rushed to the corner and FELL!!!! on my knee!
Luckily my groceries didn´t break....yet....then as the second trufi was coming, my bottle of olives fell out of my apparently ripped bag and broke! but I got on the trufi anyway...hehehe...
Then, as I was on the trufi I decided to take a look at my probably scabbed up knee....but instead I ended up seeing a slightly gashing knee. So, I stopped the trufi and waited for another one heading BACk to the hospital! Luckily I wasn't that far. My knee wasn´t hurting hardly at all until i looked at it....then it began to hurt a little more.
Ok, so I get back to the hospital and it was about 4:45pm...the front desk ladies were wondering why the heck I was back and then I told them (while giggling nervously and feeling stupid) I fell. They got worried and sent me to the ER to get me cleaned up. I ended up getting an x-ray on my right knee (which of course showed nothing!) and waited a lot.
Before they told me about any x-ray the doctor on call (traumatologist....aka orthopedic doctor luckily!!:)) put a strip of gauze on it and taped it....then told me to go to the x-ray hahaha i was like what! that´s all!!! haha
Ok, so after he sees my xray, he tells me to lie down on the second bed in the ER room, which from working there and seeing some things, I know that that's where they always do the 'emergency surgeries'. so then i began to worry a little. So, I'm lying there on this previously used and not replaced or cleaned hospital bed thing and looking up at this very peculiar stain on the ceiling which i can only think to be a blood stain. And then, they bring the light fixture over and a bottle of anesthesia! AHHHH this wound is not that bad is it?!??!?!
Yep, so I'm getting anesthesia shots...which was the worst of the pain...and the doctors are trying all they can to distract me from the pain and my thinking ahhhh needles!!!
Yeah so minutes later, they're all poking around and cleaning it out and I can't feel a thing! AWESOME! It felt like they were just poking and proding my knee over my jeans!!! no pain was awesome!!!
Then, the doctor grabbed some paper towel thing with a hole in the middle and they all looked at me smiling....it was strange....then they open this bag thing and he grabs a long piece of thread and i was like 'oh ok stitches!' Yeah totally didn´t ask how many...should have.
I got up, anesthesia still hadn´t worn off.....yay! He said to come back for a check-up (actually he did say something about taking the stitches out then....but that can't be right!) on Wednesday....
So, here I am, a day later with a bandaged up right knee with who knows how many stitches in it and unable to bend my knee!!!
Please pray that I will still be able to enjoy parque tunari (hopefully this weekend instead of sleeping in the rain forest), chapare (rain forest), and have a great two weeks!!!:)
Love,
Emily
p.s. see you SOON!!!!! very SOON!!! JULY 21ST BABY!!!! YEA YEA!!!!!:):):)

Pullitzer Prize and Nobel Prize? ME??
5/3/08:
Today, Wara, Eli, Carol and I are going to the fair! YAY!
So, we actually left for the fair around 8 pm. Yeah and we arrived back home around 3 am! LONG day. A lot of drama too, but it was fun still.
Actually it was really boring and cold. When I get faster internet access I will post this hilarious video of me and Wara on this ride that was supposed to be a heck of a lot funner! :) You’ll laugh. You’ll cry. You’ll feel the cold wind in your hair. Ok well I’m being a bit over dramatic but you know…:)
5/4/08:
Well, needless to say, Wara and I didn’t make it to church today due to arriving home around 3 in the morning! Instead, we slept until noon-ish (well 4 pm for me…lol) and did a lot of other random little things around the house…painting, cleaning, washing, etc.
5/5/08:
Happy Birthday David! :)
Well, today I got to hang out with an old classmate/friend Axel (no not a car part lol). I had a lot of fun catching up and such. Good times!
This was the first day of my two weeks left at school! I am beginning to really struggle with no money!
5/6/08:
So, this is my last posted entry in my daily journal...yikes. So there probably won’t be much more detail anymore due to the fact that I am lazy in writing stuff down each day and I don’t have the best memory.
Well, I called today, and only BMAC answered…which was great! I loved to finally talk to her! I am really struggling more and more with lonliness, among other things here. :) PLEASE PRAY! :)
5/7-16/08:
Last Two Weeks of Work at CECBCC! :)
It was stressful and nice at the same time because I was able to get some things out in the open. Lies were being told about me behind my back and I finally got fed up with it. For probably one of the first times in my life, I finally did something about being hurt by someone/people and confronted them. It was scary…and lies were still told….but I was fine with it. I dealt with what I had to and left it at that…totally fine! It was strangely freeing. :)
5/17/08:
Time to look for a place to volunteer.
Nah! I just took it easy today…it was a great relaxing day for me! :)
5/18/08:
Visited the Cochabamba International Church and talked with some old family missionary friends of ours and found out about a bunch of different opportunities.
5/19/08:
I visited Solomon Klein, an orphanage here in Cochabamba. Actually my cousin Tanya adopted her little girl, Alaina, from this orphanage about ten or eleven years ago!
I don’t think I’ll be volunteering there though. Something just didn’t feel right about it.
Plus, they asked me for a few photocopies of my passport, which I didn’t have. The school had my original passport and didn’t give it to me when I left on Friday.
5/20/08:
Happy Golden Birthday Patita!!!! :)
5/21/08:
Well, today, Wara and I headed to the Capilla. I had to pick up my passport and she had to drop off her luggage because she was traveling to Santa Cruz for the weekend with a family from the school/church.
5/22/08:
Corpus Christi was celebrated or recognized or whatever by Catholics today and so there was no school or work for most. So, I hung out with Patita that day. I went to eat at her grandparents’ house and then we just hung out pretty much the rest of the day. VERY FUN!!!! :)
5/23/08:
Well, this morning, I actually substituted for the English kinder teacher for a couple hours because she had a mother’s day thing at her son’s school. I was greeted with hostility but I don’t even care anymore. :)
Then, as I was heading home, Patita called me to tell me that this one guy at church needed an English speaking receptionist at his office and wanted to talk with me. So, I called him up and he told me to be at his office within that same hour or so for an interview! So, I rushed around frantically trying to find a suitable outfit and rushed to the interview.
All went well, he told me to return on Monday morning sometime between 8:30 am and noon and tell him my answer. Of course I am encouraged by all to say yes and just show up bright and early on Monday morning (which by the way is tomorrow!) and just begin to work. It is currently 12:46 am on Monday morning and I have no idea what I am going to say. I mean, if I have a job it is more of a guarantee that I can return in August, but still I don’t know!? :)
5/24/08:
Thinking and relaxing day! Just sat around, chatting online, exercising, and writing some letters/postcards. Sent a postcard to some people…see how long it takes to arrive…a week or a day before I arrive? Haha lol.
5/25/08:
Well, I went back to the Cochabamba International Church today to straighten a few things out and stuff. I am actually kind of considering just going to that church on a more consistent basis, but I’m afraid the Capilla might view it as offensive…so that’s another thing on my huge prayer list! :)
Wara returned late tonight. Happy she’s back. She asked me what I had done all weekend and me trying to be funny told her ‘Well, I wrote a novel, sent it in to be published and now they’ve nominated me for the Pulitzer Prize, solved world hunger and world peace, and Patita and I actually discovered the formula to heal cancer! And we of course won the Nobel Prize for that. Our awards will be given to us in a few days at our banquet!’ Haha if only I could’ve kept a straight face through the last half of it. She actually did fall for the whole writing a novel and sending it in to the publisher part…I’m sure the whole Pulitzer Prize and smirk gave it away though. And then of course half way through my amazing speech about how I won two Nobel prizes I started to giggle! DANG IT!! I almost had her going!! Hahaha lol :)
