It’s the end of the world as we know it. (Clap three times) LOL
4/29/08:
Not much different today. Stressed at school as usual. I did get to call Emma about some issues…that was good to be able to talk to one of my GNO girlies once again!!
After I hung up with Emma, I grabbed a computer and was going to try to load pictures, but the electricity went off on the block…so I just headed home and that’s about all I wrote! Hehe
4/30/08:
hehe…didn’t really write anything this day and don’t remember what I did.
Oh yeah! DUH I loaded pictures onto snapfish.com!!!! Join snapfish for those of you who don’t already have an account and look at my abundance of pictures!! More to come….PROMISE!!
5/1/08:
Happy International Day of Work
NO SCHOOL!! Woo hoo! What a day…yeah actually Wara and I just cleaned the house and painted some furniture most of the day. LOL
In the afternoon, we watched ‘Jumper’ and then went to Patita’s house to watch ‘The Perfect Man’ and ‘No Reservations.’ Then, I printed off my resignation letter and that’s about all I wrote.
5/2/08:
Well, today at school, right after the teacher’s meeting, I handed in my two weeks notice. I heard nothing the whole day, but I’m sure I’ll hear about it on Monday because we’re not going to church due to the status quo in Bolivia that day.
After school, I went home to get dressed for the gym.
When I got to the gym, I first went to the swimming office to ask about trying out for the pre-masters program and they had me do it right away.
So I apparently tried out for the club, which accepts people up to 25 I guess! Yeah so all they had me do was dive in, do freestyle to the other end of the pool. Come back doing backstroke and then I did one more length breast and that was it! So strange…but I got an invitation to join the club! PRETTY SWEET!
So, I just have to hand in 4 photocopies of my birth certificate, i.d. (passport), and wallet size photos and Bs. 85. and I’m in! I probably won’t be able to get those by Monday, but if I do, I start swimming every day from 7 to 8pm! I am SO EXCITED!
Then, I headed up to the gym, did some workouts, and then went out to eat at some random restaurant and then to church for young adults (youth group they call it).
Youth group was…interesting. Patita didn’t arrive right away and Jessica never even came…it was kinda awkward at first.
Yeah so apparently there’s a bunch of ‘tribes’ coming in for meetings…I am not sure what they’re called in English…but last year a bunch of riots broke out and there was at least one death…a little boy! Evo Morales (Bolivian president) apparently had two airplanes from Cuba (or Colombia) flown in full of guns for ‘his people’ and so there’s a lot of fear that it’ll be worse this year. I’ve even heard someone say that this start a civil war in Bolivia. So please pray for the safety of Bolivia and its people. Also, a little worry is happening because it’s well known that Evo does NOT like America, etc. So, please just pray for all the Americans and foreigners for that matter in this nation. I hear Venezuela doesn’t have any foreigners whatsoever anymore…they all got deported and are not welcomed. This is a huge prayer request. Please keep us in your prayers tomorrow. Thanks!
~Emily :)
p.s. I didn’t make it to an internet café….obviously lol!!! :)
but still keep us in your prayers!!! :)
p.s. 2. there is another note to be posted still and i promise it´s already written i just forgot to put it on my memory stick!!:)

Swimming = Heaven on earth! I am a Kinesthetic Learner! And more
4/13/08:
I watched ‘Underdog’ this morning. Then I had some eggs, tea, etc. Then, I discovered that my hair was ‘long enough’ to braid! YAY. Then, we went to church.
After church, I saw this adorable little puppy and the owners were just giving him away for free…man I sometimes wish I had a puppy to play with and take care of here!
So, today, my mom emailed me the details of my return. So, I leave Bolivia on Sunday, July 20th and arrive around 6? And then I have 3.5 days with friends and church, until we fly out to Oregon for our family reunion around noon on the 24th. Then, probably from Oregon, I will leave for Bolivia, for independence day around the 1st or 2nd… so yeah…there’s my visit!
4/14/08:
Sorry, I don’t know about this day! :)
4/15/08:
Happy Birthday Allison!
Happy Birthday Elisabeth!
Today I just went to school and did tutoring.
4/16/08:
I went to the gym today. I felt so good. I may have over done it a bit much as you will see in my 4/17 note…:)
After the gym, Wara and I went out to eat at a really good pizza place called ‘Sole Mio’ and we saw…and HEARD a lot of gringos (Americans). It was humorous.
After dinner I called Sarah and got to talk to Matthew and Silvia!! So sweet!! :)
4/17/08:
SORE!!!!! So SORE!!!! I felt like a robot all day long! Especially when we had to do aerobics…oh man it was very funny. It was kick-boxing or something and they played a techno/Rocky soundtrack the whole hour…I felt stupid to say the least. LOL
Oh yeah, and that day at school, there were parent-teacher conferences, and I have no idea why I had to even be there because I seriously did NOTHING…oh well…I got to color a little with the poor kids who got dragged along…LOL :)
4/18:08:
Teachers re-decorated rooms and I actually did something this time. I was still sore, but it was bearable.
Then, when we finished, I booked it to the pool and got to swim for almost 2 heavenly hours!! It was the best two hours of my life! I was in heaven for two hours! I don’t know how much I swam, plus it was kind of hard because there were teams training for the next day’s masters competition. I am considering joining masters here…I will have to sign up on Friday May 2. We’ll see.
That evening, we had a teacher’s meeting. I was late because of traffic, etc. I came in just in time to hear the kinder area teacher (Miss Carmen) talking. She mentioned me a lot and let’s just say that she directly asked the entire administration to consider taking immediate action on ‘me’ in front of the entire staff! Yeah awkward right?! So needless to say starting from the meeting until about now it hasn’t been very good.
I’ll try writing more about it another time…right now I need to go to sleep and get to school earlier tomorrow.
4/19/08:
Happy Quincenera Party Ivana!!! :)
I watched Little Man, and Last Holiday, and made pancakes and popcorn.
If I quit or get fired I might work at a baby orphanage owned by an American lady. Please pray with me about where I can go to next. Thanks.
4/20/08:
Happy Birthday Angie! :)
Wara and I went to Lago del Eden today with Patita and her parents. It’s this beautiful restaurant along a lake….well its dam at least lol. It has a castle on the premisces and we had so much fun taking pictures. However, I didn’t bring my camera that day! So mad at myself about that…but then again if it takes me over two hours to load just ten pictures…no matter.
Adela made sopa de mani. It was amazing!
Then, Wara and I went to Cine Center to celebrate a church friend’s birthday and I saw Sebas Santos, the youngest son of one of our first family friends here besides the Camachos!
Well, that’s basically it for now. :)
4/21/08:
no news about my job or lack thereof! I had ‘homework’ for kinder…including doing some laundry!? Strangest teacher chore! Then, I went to the gym and tutored.
4/22/08:
no tutoring today. They switched me to Thursdays and Fridays now…so no more swimming! Grrrrrr :(
4/23/08:
Happy Birthday Madeline! :)
I am now helping with 7th grade!?!?!
This evening, we had a teacher/parent meeting about the trimester. I was so bored. I drew some pictures, etc.
When I returned home, Wara informed me that she was heading off to Santa Cruz the next morning!? Apparently her school was on strike! LUCKY! Haha lol
4/24/08:
Went to school so I wouldn’t look like a fool LOL. I went to the gym. I got one hour of sleep. The end.
4/25/08:
School. Skipped gym. Watched movies. Began writing my first draft of my letter of resignation. I now teach 7th grade science?! We had a meeting about the English fair. I got a package from my parents.
4/26/08:
I cleaned my room. Tried to do laundry, but was unsuccessful because I can’t work the machine. Went to the Cancha alone! So fun! Bought gifts and fruit, etc. The end.
4/27/08:
Church, Patita wasn’t there!
I went to the downtown area and spent two hours and loaded ten pictures online. I called my grandparents, my mom, and the others didn’t answer! I ate some sugar cane I bought on Saturday! I watched movies and then looked at wedding pictures from Israel/Erin’s wedding the day before and only seven pictures my mom took at Ivana’s 15era! So beautiful!
4/28/08:
LATE! 7th grade science; not liking it at all. I am doing an outline of the book for myself so I can answer some questions. I wrote my letter…hopefully my final draft so I can give it to the administration tomorrow. I found out today that I am a kinesthetic (sp?) learner! That answered a lot of my life questions! Thank you Jessica!! :)
Now, I am finally caught up on my notes!!! :)

Ow! I’m in pain: GOOD PAIN! :)
4/11/08:
Happy Children’s Day! :)
Well, today was Children’s Day at school. Tomorrow is the actual Children’s Day on the calendar, but we of course celebrated today.
Anyway, I finally found a costume to wear today after stressing about it last night. I wore a white shirt with my whitest possible pants and angel wings we found in some box left behind by the Camachos. :) So, yeah, I went to school today with two 2.5 liter coke bottles in hand and angel wings…quite a sight. LOL
After school, I called Sarah and talked for a good while, then I bought a (brace yourself for this next comment): HELLO KITTY CELL PHONE!!! Oh come on are you really that shocked about it?! Now you had to have known that eventually, even though I am 20 it’s true…I would eventually manage to find and purchase a Hello Kitty cell phone! :) I can’t wait to post pictures of this baby! I love it so much. I will fill you in on the name at a later date… :)
4/12/08:
Happy actual Children’s Day! :)
Today I woke up around 7 am and I have no idea why. Friday night, Wara and I went to a couple gyms to look at them and compare prices and pools. The first one we went to was kind of creepy. It was huge, but there was no one there. It was open and all, but we couldn’t find anyone who could actually help us out. There were like three men working out and it was a little creepy. The gym was called ‘Hercules’ so maybe that’s why it seemed like an all men gym, LOL. Yeah, but we eventually found a guy to help us out. So, then we decided to look at another gym with a pool just in case. Plus the guy said the pool was closed until around May or June.
Victoria was the other gym we went to. I used to take swimming and dance lessons here. Megan was on a water polo team there and I can’t remember if Allie ever took lessons there. Anyway, I actually saw one of my old swimming teachers there, but I don’t think he recognized me. I loved that pool so much. It was open first of all and it was huge! I of course wanted to just jump in right then and there and swim like 2 miles or something. But, then I discovered that there was only open swim from noon to two on week days. They aren’t open on weekends. I am really missing the conveniences of America. :)
So, the only days I would be able to go would be Thursdays and Fridays. I am so desperate to go swimming that I will do it. It’s B.20 per hour so I’ll just do that. I am thinking of maybe joining a class of some sort. But what kind could I join? I already know how to swim, obviously… :)
Well, anyway, then we headed up to the gym, which was tiny. We joined for B.60 a month just for one month to try it out. There was some good equipment up there. Not as much as Hercules of course, I mean there were no free weights, but for me it was just enough. With Wara just starting off I don’t think she saw much opportunity there. :) But we are just going to try it one month and see from there.
Anyway, back to today. I went to eat at Patita’s grandparents’ house. I felt kinda awkward because they were all talking about family memories and all that jazz, but it was fun. I enjoyed myself.
Oh yeah, how could I forget to mention…when Patita picked me up that morning, she had brought her newest puppy…the one she had found and saved! She was so adorable. So very hyper and only about 2.5 months old! I wish I had taken a picture of her, but of course seeing as how I have like 300 pictures still to post, it wouldn’t have mattered anyway. :)
After lunch, we talked for a while at her house, had some scrumptious peanut M&Ms. Then, she drove me home because we were supposed to ‘mow’/ weed-whack the lawn that afternoon. However, when I got home I found Wara and Adela painting the old furniture. So, I joined in and we did that instead of ‘mowing’ because we were out of some cord for the whacker…
I had so much paint all over me. I should have just bathed in gasoline. I was extremely flammable last night. I took a shower and hopefully scrubbed most of it if not all of it off. Yeah, and the internet is not working and I’m really frustrated. It’s not Tommy (my computer LOL) . But even so, I wish I could just head to church today and get help from Kyle! :)
Emily:)

Meh. That’s all I gots to say: MEH! :)
4/6-7/08:
Yeah, did I mention I didn’t fill in all the days! :)
4/8/08:
Happy Birthday Ivana! :)
Today, I called Ivana to wish her a happy birthday but she didn’t answer...boo :(
I did however talk to Sarah and she informed me that the 30 hour famine is this weekend! And that she will be trying to film some stuff for me…YAY!! :)
I had a horrible stomach ache that day and didn’t do much else. I got home around 5 and never woke up until the next morning! :)
4/9/08:
I have determined that I need to leave even earlier for school because the buses keep arriving jam packed...
Well, school was ok…I had to go to INTERPOL again (oh yeah I went yesterday…:)) and FELCC. INTERPOL is done with for good I’m told, but we forgot a piece of paperwork for the FELCC and so we were supposed to finish that tomorrow…
The rest of the day was ok…I went home and watched Mad Money (lol SARAH:)). Then, because I was really homesick for LIFECHURCH I decided to go downtown and try to call some. I also ended up calling Allie. However, the calls lasted a little too long and I hung up around 10pm and couldn’t catch a trufi, and got home around 11:15 to find Wara and Adela looking for me on the streets. Oops! :( Yeah Not Good! I had a rough night. My asthma acted up and I felt extremely homesick for LifeChurchers! :)
4/10/08:
Today was ok. I was kinda in a bad mood from last night. Then, I got to school and Ms. Carmen informed me that I need to dress up in a costume for tomorrow…Children’s Day! Yeah good to know at the last minute…well, yeah and I also have to bring two big bottles of Coke to school…grrreat! :)
Also, some not so good at all news: I lost my iPod. Yeah I think one of the kids was going through my purse or something….I for sure had it at school because I remember I was fixing the headphone wires in chapel this morning. Well, all’s I know is that it’s not in my purse right now. Please pray that it shows up. I actually got in ‘trouble’ for losing it. It unfortunately became a bigger deal than I had wanted and now I am about to just make a ‘LOST’ poster to photocopy and offer some kind of small reward…:)
Well, T.T.F.N. folks! :)
~Emily:)
Yeah, did I mention I didn’t fill in all the days! :)

Toe Fracture is not healed quite yet, and I hate going to the Doc
3/26/08:
Hehe yeah I despise going to the doctor...so...I never went!! Hehe…the sickness eventually ‘went away’ after almost a week…hehe I suffered a while and did it the hard way but at least I didn’t have to go to the doctor!! :)
3/27/08:
Happy Birthday BMAC! :)
I tried to iron my pants today…and I burnt a hole in them. That’s right, I burnt a hole in my pants! I have determined what kind of guy I am to marry. I know! A huge revelation right! He must know how to sew, iron, and do laundry (as in sort correctly). That is all that is required of him…well….kinda…haha lol. So, anyway quite the day I called my best friend and wished her a happy birthday and figured out the type of guy I am to marry! Yay me! :)
3/28/08:
Yeah, so I didn’t write about my day so I have nothing to write…sorry :)
3/29/08:
I woke up around 10 to find Adela and Wara already working on cutting the grass. We don’t own a lawn mower here...so we had to use a weed whacker. They had already been out there for an hour before I came. We worked until about 12:30, and then came in and made ourselves some lunch and fresh lemonade!
The day was supposed to be more productive than it was. I was supposed to go to the market place to buy some more green fabric for my pants, cell phone, zipper, cheese, etc. But I ended up not going there until around 6 with Patty and all I managed to buy was the fabric. I did however shine/polish my work shoes, do white laundry and yeah before...hehe
Oh yeah, then when I got back from buying the fabric...I went online to try and text Wara but to no avail...so I just went to the IC Norte and bought some eggs, chocolate milk, yogurt, etc.
3/30/08:
Made some yummy pancakes this morning! :)
Went to church today. I really miss LifeChurch! :(
I have a goal to memorize the Jungle Book song, “That’s What Friends Are For” by the time I return...I miss the Sellers! :)
Then, Wara and I returned home to cook ourselves some lunch. We have been needing to buy cheese for a few weeks now...so hopefully maybe, probably not because it’s Sunday, we’ll do it today. LOL :)
Also had pancakes for dinner! YAY :) LOL
Well, that’s all that’s happened today. CIAO! :)
3/31/08:
I made pancakes! YUM!
I am really missing my LifeChurchers! I was thinking about you all through the church service.
Then, after church Wara and I were planning on going out with a couple other girls but it didn’t work out.
Oh yeah, and somehow the song ‘That’s What Friends Are For’ from the Jungle Book came up in conversation and so it made me miss the Sellers, and that made me somehow want to make a goal to memorize that song by July. Really random and I apologize…:)
4/1/08:
HAPPY APRIL FOOLS DAY!
Well, all I wrote down is that the Camachos are in town….?! :)
4/2/08:
Sorry, I don’t have anything to say about today…?! :)
4/3/08:
Moving Day!
Camachos didn’t leave today… instead they packed up just about the whole entire house into a truck to drive to Santa Cruz! Pr. Pablo drove with the movers to Sta. Cruz. He took 6 of the 8 total beds here…the entire living room and dining room sets. It’s quite a site here. We were left with nothing except for the computer in the family rooms, nothing but the ironing board in the girls’ bedroom, half my ‘room’ and stuff piled up to the roof almost on the kitchen table! It’s going to be another long day tomorrow organizing everything. Wara, Silvia and I went to their old house to pick some more stuff up from there! There was so much stuff there it was so overwhelming. :) So, needless to say, we now have the old furniture from their old house! So instead of ‘out with the old, in with the new’…it was: ’out with the new, and in with the old!’ :)
Well, that’s all for today…I am still with a cold and it’s getting worse from this weeks activities!
**Tomorrow I will write about how I almost could have been in an accident this morning, how I figured out why kids ‘hate’ me and are so scared of me, how I called almost my entire phonebook and no one answered, except for a few…how I have to sew these lamb bags for children’s day, etc. It actually was quite a day…I’m just way too exhausted to continue writing because it’s already 11 minutes past midnight! :)**
4/4/08:
School. Didn’t finish sewing at all last night (obviously! :)). Found Q Barato. Bought candies for girls, and Rosquitas de San Javier! Went home, played SIMs, and watched Dan in Real Life, and then ate. My stomach always hurts here…I’m about to be knocked out from the ‘Nyquil’ I just took…NIGHT! :)\
4/5/08:
Made pancakes for breakfast. Cleaned some dishes and the kitchen cupboards. Sitting on my bed wanting to sleep because of the Nyquil. Not writing in full sentences because I have to catch up on a lot of notes! :)

Wara, “Sometimes something always goes wrong!”
YAY :) LOL

Happy Father’s Day!
Well, today was Father’s Day in Bolivia...so Happy Father’s Day to all ya’ll dads out there! :)
We had our little program in the kinder and it went pretty well. The day was really long though. We had classes till 9:45, program from10 to 12, and then I just worked on some stuff in my classroom, and then helped the 5th grade until 3. I am so tired. I got home and had a silpancho with an egg and rice and talked with Eli until she had to go back to college. Wara is out I think for the night and so is Adela. So, I’m here alone tonight. I was supposed to talk to Pr. Roger about tomorrow’s traveling plans...but he wasn’t at school. I also got our new p.e. uniform today. It’s green pants with a thin khaki stripe along the legs, a khaki colored polo shirt with green strips on the sleeves and along the side and a green logo. Then to top it all off we have this lovely khaki and green jacket with our school’s logo on it as well.
I have a 2GB usb drive in the mail for me, so I will soon be able to load the pictures...including the pictures I am about to take with my new p.e. uniform! :)
Well, that’s it for now... I might actually head downtown here in a little bit and call someone...hmm but who?!?! Hehe, oh well, it’ll be a surprise I guess. LOL
See most of you in July! :)
3/20/08:
Well, today were the ‘Olympics’ thingy at school. The morning we rehearsed the marching thing and that was about it.
I went home after school and frantically packed. I was so tired though! I wanted to just sleep. So, I decided to grab a few coca leaves and chew them with gum to try to keep me awake at least until we get on the bus to Sta. Cruz! I know some of you might think that I did a drug but (with all due respect) I did nothing of the sort! Coca leaf is not a drug. Just a mini lesson for ya’ll: only a tiny little piece of a single coca leaf is actually used to make the actual drug called cocaine. The coca leaf itself has a natural ingredient in it that helps you stay awake and gives you energy! It’s not a drug!
Ok, well now that that is over with let me continue on…:)
So, I went to school…still exhausted because I didn’t chew that much coca…LOL
We (kinder and pre-kinder) marched around with the ‘promo’ (senior class) and then played a game with the parents of kinder/pre-kinder and yeah that was seriously about it. So, because Wara and I had to catch a bus that evening for Santa Cruz, I snuck off earlier than the rest of the staff, called some people is MN, and then went home to get my luggage. I had totally misjudged the time, and found out that we could have actually left an hour earlier if I hadn’t called MN…hehe oops…oh well, I had some good conversations so it’s all good!:)
There was a ton of traffic in Cochabamba (p.s. IVANA: pay attention and try to learn how to spell COCHABAMBA!! LOL:)). Because it was ‘Maundy Thursday’ and apparently Catholics have to visit five churches or something like that before midnight for some Easter tradition or something…I have no idea about catholic things…sorry!!:)
So, we eventually made it running as fast as we could with luggage in hand and everything into the bus station and frantically bought the cheapest and soonest bus tickets we could and we were off! We had about twenty minutes to spare before our departure, so we had dinner there… :) We were on a huge ‘bus-cama’ (bus with beds translated) which simply means that the seats were large and had plenty of space for our neighbors and ourselves to recline. It wasn’t too bad! We slept most of the way anyway because it was about 10:30pm when we left the station.
3/21/08:
GOOD FRIDAY!
p.s. DAVID: please please please post those pictures already!!!:)
Well, Wara and I arrived around 7 or 8 am to Santa Cruz. It was almost unbearably hot! Then, we waited a little bit for Pr. Pablo to come and pick us up and then headed to their house. Later that day, when we had freshened up a bit and stuff, we hung out with an old classmate of ours who lives/goes to school there now: Sergio Prado. It was…interesting to see him again (hehe lol:)). He used to be the shyest person alive when I knew him and now…well, he’s not…he’s camera shy so there will probably not be any pictures of him (well, a few of him being punched by me…haha lol David!!!:)).
We went to ‘yogen-fruz’ and had some scrumptious frozen yogurt with fresh frozen fruit….yummmm!!! :) Allison I took pictures and thought of you and mom and wished so badly that yogen fruz was still in Coch! :)
Later, we picked up his brother, sister in law and nephew and drove to the cine center to decide if we wanted to see a movie. We chose not to and instead Wara and I raced in the arcade….and I lost! I blame Sergio of course because he kept bugging me and kicking my seat! :)
Then, we went walking around the plaza there and there were a bunch of catholics there and there was a parade and they were singing depressing songs and yeah…
Well, then we headed home and slept on mattresses on the floor in a room there because all their beds are in Cochabamba! :)
3/22/08:
This day we woke up and got ready to go swimming! YAY! I was excited. We didn’t go to a pool or anything though. We actually went to this BEAUTIFUL lagoon in these dunes…I don’t even know how to explain it. We drove for a while and seemed to be heading into this desert type place and then suddenly out of nowhere it seemed, over these dunes we came across these amazing bodies of water! We parked near one and walked a ways to a lovely little one and then over another dune and all of the sudden we see this even more beautiful body of water and larger…and set up our bonfire! I have some pictures, but of course you will unfortunately have to wait until I have better luck with loading pictures here! :) If I were a better writer I would spend be more able to explain the beauty of it all…plus I have a lot of notes to catch up on…hehe stupid procrastination and laziness and sickness…:)
3/23/08:
Happy EASTER Sunday! :)
I miss LifeChurch SO mucho! Did I mention yet that Easter isn’t celebrated nor acknowledged by the Christian church here?! Yeah well it’s not! I was shocked! I was so homesick the whole entire Easter holiday for my LifeChurch family!
Plus, to top the day off I had horrible chills…yep chills! In the tropical, hot state of Santa Cruz I was freezing! I was so sick the whole day! :(
That evening, Wara and I headed back to Cochabamba on a bus that was supposed to be a ‘buscama’ but was not! I was sick, it was uncomfortable and it was a long ride! Not a fun day! :)
3/24/08:
Wara and I arrived early this morning from Santa Cruz. I got dropped off at school from the bus and Wara stayed on with my luggage until the terminal. I don’t even know just how early I was to school...it was at least an hour though. I was sick the whole ride back from Santa Cruz, and so I couldn’t make it through the day. I locked myself in the bathroom for two hours at school because i felt so sick. Then, the secretary got me and gave me some tea and a Tylenol. But, it didn’t help too much...it’s about 8pm here and I feel just as bad. So, I left in a taxi. When I got home, there were some campesinos (I think) outside of the house and they were asking me for something to work on the road with. I had no idea what they were saying...I am also quite delirious. Then, when I went inside, I just collapsed onto my bed and was asleep for about 6 hours! I took a shower, and now I am just sitting here typing this.
That’s it for the update... :)
oh wait! Just kidding....here’s one more day! :) LOL
3/25/08:
Well, I made it to school today but still had a horrendous stomach ache. I was told last night by Adelita that they don’t boil the water in Santa Cruz...so that is most likely the cause of my horribly acute pain. Then, at lunch, Jessika (ok I apologize for always spelling her name wrong, but I don’t know how it is spelled! :)) told me that I might have Amoebas (sp?) aka parasite/s because of the bad water I drank. No one had told me that they took it straight from the tap! Had I known that I definitely would not have even touched it! Well, too late now. Now all I need to do is somehow figure out a time and day to go back to the doctor and probably have to do those horrible traumatizing tests all over again!! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! :( I am not a very happy camper right now! Please pray that I don’t have to do those tests again. But if I do, please pray that I can do just get them over with fast. And if I have to be put on that darn diet again...please pray for my strength! Actually, please just pray that this just gets healed and I don’t have anything! :)
Get it? Got it? GOOD!

Pizza and Ketchup!? Llama Jerky?! YES SIREE! :)
3/13/08:
Today was better than yesterday at school. We practiced the father’s day program and the march for the ‘inauguration day of sports’ thingy.
Then, after school, I took a trufi downtown as always and bought ice cream, a ham and cheese croissant at Dumbo’s again!:) Then I called Sarah who couldn’t talk for long because she was at work, and then tried the Daehlins again but no luck. So, finally I tried Elisabeth and got to talk to her…yeah the day was better than the day before that’s for sure! Oh yeah, and I walked all around the downtown area looking for this certain kind of snack, and cashed my check. Anyway, that’s it. Now I need to post this butt long notes!
3/14/08:
Well, today I found these amazing snacks called “Rosquitas de San Javier.” So yummy! I will have to remember to buy a bunch before I leave for MN in JUNE!!! :) I have so many foods and snacks that I want to share with all of you! :) I also bought these other Brazilian chocolate ball thingys...but they weren’t as good as the cook at BCOM used to make! Jane seriously makes them the best! :)
3/15/08:
Well, I didn’t get to go to Parque Tunari today...or Lago del Eden (a beautiful and fun restaurant up in the mountains along a gorgeous brown lake (LOL) because of flooding. So, instead, I went to another restaurant with Wara, Patita, Andrea, and Mariana in Quillacollo...near where I live...and I had some ‘charque’ which is essentially llama jerky! YUM!!! :)
On the ride back, I was kinda silently praying to God about something while my friends talked and He gave me some really funny responses/answers/confirmations to what I was praying about...hehe...I was quite amused...I am still not sure if they were truly confirmations...but hey I’ll just keep praying right?! :)
Later that night, I went to a pizzeria with Wara and we had some good talks about...stuff...hehe...
It was quite a long night...we walked around a long time trying to find a trufi to take us back home...
3/16/08:
Church. It was a really hot day. I had saltenas again after church! Seriously every time I chomp into a saltena it feels like heaven on earth. You know how they say ‘the best things in life are worth waiting for.’ Yeah...waiting 7 years to once again eat a saltena in Bolivia was DEFINITELY worth waiting for! :)
After church, Wara and I went to an old favorite family restaurant called ‘Sucremanta’ and I had the special: Menudita...this really yummy soup! :)
Then, we headed to the downtown area and I called Sarah and told her about the day before’s funny ‘confirmations’ and then Wara got to meet her!
Once we got home, I attempted to ‘tan’ while listening to Celine Dion. I am way too white here...haha...but tanning was REALLY boring! I don’t get how some people enjoy it...I was going crazy just lying there. Then, after that I did about 20 minutes on the cross trainer/bike machine that Adela has here...
I watched 101 and 102 Dalmations... :)
Yeah this is really random...but hehe...oh well... :)
3/17/08:
Well, today I of course had classes and tutoring. I am now sitting alone in the house at the kitchen table eating some pizza with ketchup...seriously the best thing ever!! You all have got to try it...just try it!! If you don’t like it...you’re crazy!!! Haha...
Yeah, so not too much happened today, just the whole drama about this little girl who’s scared of me for some reason! :(
But yeah that’s seriously about it.
3/18/08:
Today. I of course had school. We practiced the father’s day song and poem pretty much the whole time. We did a little bit of actual school work but not much.
We got another new student in kinder today. Her name is Shirley. She was really shy.
We also practiced our father’s day program (which is tomorrow because Father’s Day is tomorrow here! :)) and marched around the school with the seniors for the practice of the ‘inauguration of sports day’ Thursday. We found out during that that it would happen in the afternoon instead of in the morning as it was written in our ‘agendas’! However, I am planning on leaving for Santa Cruz that day with Wara. Apparently we’re supposed to be leaving with Pr. Roger around noon. So there’s a little scheduling conflicts going on in my life here...but I am sure it’ll all work out. :)
Well, that’s all I got for now. I am finally caught up on updates! :)
GOD BLESS!

So, instead, I went to another restaurant with Wara, Patita, Andrea, and Mariana in Quillacollo...near where I live...and I had some ‘charque’ which is essentially llama jerky! YUM!!! :)
On the ride back, I was kinda silently praying to God about something while my friends talked and He gave me some really funny responses/answers/confirma
GOD BLESS!
~Emily:)
Back at Home! Back at Home! Thank God Almighty I am back at HOME!
2/29/08:
Wow so I’m actually writing this one March 17, 2008! Well, this day was just crazy. I went to the clinic nice and early in the morning to get some more blood drawn…and I also needed to hand in two other tests which I’d rather not mention due to the graphic nature! LOL:) I was only able to hand in one test as the other one was just too difficult for me to do…hehe… not to mention traumatizing! LOL
So, apparently when the doctor’s say ‘come in ‘ayunas’’ they mean complete. ‘ayunas’ means ‘fast’ or no food or drink. I thought you know some water and a piece of gum wouldn’t do anything but boy was I wrong! They almost didn’t take my blood because of the one little piece of gum I had! But of course they took it anyway warning me that they might actually have to draw it again the next day because there might be too much sugar or something! Dudes! You have no idea just how much blood they drew!!! Ok, too graphic? Sorry. I just want to emphasize the fact that it hurt…and they couldn’t find the vein! AGAIN! Ouch!!!
Getting blood drawn is just too painful and too traumatizing here! I don’t care if it’ll save my life….I’m never getting blood drawn ever again!!! (Don’t worry I’m not as angry as I might make it sound here!:))
Then, of course I got lost on my way to school. I apparently took the wrong trufi and ended up in Pacata Baja…which is near my first house when we lived here! Kinda far from the school!
3/1/08:
So, I slept all day this day…it was a Saturday so it was ok…
Later that day I watched Bring It On: In It To Win It. Gotta love those silly cheerleading movies! :)
So that’s pretty much all I got written down for that day!
3/2/08:
I somehow made it to church. We were of course late, but we made it. I still don’t know why or how I made it there. I really should not have gone. I’m sure it would have been ok if I skipped church that day on account of my being sick and all!
Well, when we returned home, we found Adela standing outside our gate in the cold rain unable to get in! Yes, we were locked out and none of us had a key. We tried the neighbor but she couldn’t help us…and by the time we went back to our gate it was opened! Adela said she’d been out there for almost an hour!
When we finally got inside the house, Adela made some amazingly delicious soup from lima beans and some other stuff that I can’t remember…but it was DELICIOUS! :)
Then, I went online and found out that one of my old college classmates: SHABANA is PREGNANT!!!! CONGRATULATIONS SHABANANA AND DAVID!!!! I am so happy for her! Totally shocked but so happy! :)
Then, after being online and resting some more, I went with Wara and Eli to the movie rental place where WARA thought this one movie looked just excellent and so we watched it. It was called 30 Days of Night!!!
SCARIEST MOVIE I’VE EVER SEEN!
I could barely sleep that night! I somehow eventually fell asleep and was comforted (again somehow! :)) by Howard Mohr’s ‘How to Speak Minnesotan’ which played while I was falling asleep! Strange huh?!?! :)
Prayer Request: Please pray for Bolivia. I was listening to Adela and Wara talk about how bad the politics and such are here. They sounded quite scared almost about the current events here and so I am asking you on behalf of all of Bolivia to continue to pray for the warfare: political, physical and spiritual. Thanks! :)
3/3/08:
Today, I called in late to work…didn’t actually write if I went or not…hehe
I felt horrible but apparently only slightly better if at all than the day before.
Oh and I had yet to hand in my third and final test to the clinic.
3/4/08:
There was no water. This happened quite frequently in that week and the next…this week there hasn’t been any problems yet! :)
I went to work, but didn’t go to tutoring. I had a bad day…no details but just bad…probably with my being ill and all.
I tried to watch Water Horse…but it was only in Spanish, and so I gave up on it.
I wrote that I was apparently all alone that day!!?!?!
Again, please keep in mind that I am writing all of this on March 17, 2008! :)
3/5/08:
I stayed home once again today. I made myself some soup with onions, lima beans and potatoes! YUMMY!!
Then, later on I had some quinoa soup. Quinoa is too hard to explain…hehe
Again no water today so we had to borrow some from Eli.
I went downtown to get my laundry with Adela. I had some more strength that day so I was able to assist her. I also went to the clinic that day because I was able to finish my final test that day! It truly was a joyous day!! I am traumatized by that whole experience, but nonetheless thrilled that I was able to do it…finally!! :) LOL
And please don’t even try to ask me about the test because they are much too gruesome…:) and if you’re really smart please no comments!! :)
3/6/08:
The Camacho’s came back in town for a special speaker we were having at the church the next few days. They arrived at midnight.
So, when I came back from school, there they were all eating lunch and stuff… then we headed to church at night for the special speaker.
3/7/08:
I went to school…shocker I know! LOL
Then, I went to the clinic to pick up the results of my lab tests and they all came back normal! My sugar was actually very slightly lower than normal even after I had chewed that piece of gum… :)
Then, we went to church that night again.
3/8/08:
No school being a Saturday and all. I basically played SIMS all day long. Wara and I didn’t go to church that night and stayed home cleaning, and playing SIMS! :) I unfortunately got quite addicted to that game. But of course we had to stop because the Camacho’s came back, and the game was only on Pr. Pablo’s laptop…:)
3/9/08:
Well, the people who were also staying at the house from Santa Cruz (by the way :)) went out and bought some saltenas for breakfast! YUM. Then, we headed off to church…late as usual…hehe
We actually had church outside that day because of the special speaker and the fact that we had extended invitations to at least three other churches including the Camacho’s church in Santa Cruz.
Then, after church, we had more saltenas…hehe… and I played hopscotch with Wara and Eli. The Camachos had actually left the night before to make it to their church the next day. Well, all of them except for Silvia and Abigail the youngest daughter…and of course Wara… :)
So, we ate at the church and then eventually headed home…yeah this is probably making no sense but yeah… :)
I attempted to make no bake cookies that evening…but they turned out horribly!
The first batch which was a really big one was just not a good experience…LOL
So, first off, I realized a big mistake right off the bat which was that I had bought margarine accidentally instead of butter…and then…I had no idea how to measure it all because of there being no measuring cups or utensils. Then, Wara wanted to help so bad so I let her help me put in the vanilla extract. But, she accidentally poured like half the bottle in! Yeah…I hate vanilla…it was quite funny. Then, to top it all off I made it too liquidy and added too much sugar. The next batch was too dry and had too much sugar. I am just not a fan of the cocoa here…it tasted really strange…
I learned my lessons:
1. Only use butter when baking
2. Either buy the expensive brand of cocoa (Hershey’s) or use choc. Powder…or just live without being able to make no bakes here!
So yeah that’s pretty much it for that day. I’ll try and finish updates tomorrow. :)
3/10/08:
Ok so on this day, my last day as a teenager! I was late to pretty much everything. I was late to school, late to lunch (because it was my week to stay late at kinder…), which made me late to 4th grade. Then, I had to talk to Mrs. Torrez after school which made me go late to my tutoring job. Yeah not too good of a day…
Then, when I arrived home Abigail (Camacho’s youngest) ran out crying to meet me. She had been home alone…poor girl! :( So, I watched Legally Blonde 1 and 2 with her until Silvia, Wara, and Adela got home. :)
3/11/08:
Happy Birthday to ME!!!! :)
I’m officially 20 years old! I woke up this morning at 3:30 am as I almost always do on my birthday. Yes, I am strange! LOL The reason for this obnoxiously early morning is because I was born at 3:30 am and so i wake up at that time…sometimes with an alarm, and other times it’s just automatic…?!
Yeah, so school was not too good that day. I had a little girl start crying in my class…the WHOLE class time! She was apparently really scared of me!?!? Well, actually she apparently still is!? I have no idea why…she’s like the teacher’s pet of the class and always is so good and stuff. Yeah so that really whomps! :(
I am just not liking teaching at all…not because of that little girl…but mainly because I just hate teaching, and filling out reports, and planning, etc. I truly do just hate it… :( So please pray for me…
That evening, after tutoring, I went to some restaurants with some old classmates of mine. The first one we went to I had an espresso and two special Brazilian treats called coxinhas (sp?? Allison?). There I opened some gifts…which happened to be two hello kitty wallets! :)
Then, we went to the ‘cine center’ where there was a food court and I ordered a miniature plate of pique…boy did I feel FAT! :)
So yeah, that was my fun birthday evening! Thanks so much to Patita, Eli, Wara, Andrea, Mariana, and Carol! :)
3/12/08:
ok so today was a really bad day for me at school. Everything is just accumulating and stressing me out. I actually called Sarah and even my dad and broke down in tears in the phone booth downtown! I was hating school SO MUCH! I wanted to quit…not sure if I feel less about it now or not…
However, that night I could really feel the prayers from my parents and LifeChurch…so thank you LifeChurch for your prayers that night and others…thank you so much.
Not much else happened that night except for me going to sleep really early and waking up the next day in the kitchen?!?! :)
~Emily:)
p.s. keep in mind I am copying these from my facebook notes!!!:)
PRAYER REQUEST: PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE pray for me and my working at the school. I am really struggling there and need a lot of prayer. It’s funny cause this week (3/10 – 3/14)’s verse is Philippians 4:13 “I can do everything through Him who gives me strength.” (NIV) :)

Paperwork!
2/27/08:
Well, the day started off okay. I got to school early, and signed in, went to my classroom to put my bag there and then headed to the chapel for teacher prayer time. ---- ok so it’s March 2nd and I have no idea what happened to the rest of that note…
Well, I went to the FELCC (police force against crime, etc) and found a huge line of people. There was a huge line because three policemen were murdered I think the day before by campesinos. So, Gonzalez (lawyer dude) sent me back to school in a taxi…we had to take a detour to school because there was some strike/parade type thing going on in the street! I was feeling very sick to my stomach that day too. Also, I lost my cell phone! I don’t think it was in either of the two taxis we took. I really think that I lost it at school. Like one of my kinder kids took it thinking it was a toy…I don’t know please pray that I’ll be able to find it and not have to buy a new one!
When I got home, I had a fever. I could’ve sworn I had packed a thermometer, but it could have been something my parents unpacked without my knowledge or permission. So, I fell asleep for a bit, and woke up feeling awful and all alone in the house. So, I wrote Wara a note and fell back asleep only to wake up an hour later, when she and Adela arrived feeling better. I took a couple aspirin from my emergency kit and tried to fall back asleep convinced that I wasn’t going to school the next day.
2/28/08:
I woke up feeling ok but still called in sick to work. However, I ended up going to work because I didn’t have a note from the hospital proving that I was sick (per the CECBCC rule…) After a little while of being at school, Miss Shirley and Gonzalez brought me to the Boliviana/Americana Clinic. I was supposed to go back to the FELCC, but the doctor got there late and so we were going to go there instead at 2:30. The doctor prescribed some medicine for my stomach and asked me to do some lab tests for the next day. He also put me on a ‘white diet’ meaning no grease, no oil, etc. No milk, only white rice, white chicken, etc!! Torture! I hate it…please pray that I can recover quickly so I can go back to eating the delicious foods Cochabamba has to offer! :)
So, back at school, we had a hard time finding a lunch that follows those rules…so, I ate two pieces of chicken and nothing else!
At 2:30 Gonzalez and I left for the FELCC and got some of my paperwork done. The lady who was helping us was very crabby! She kept talking to me and almost yelling at me that my fingers were too stiff during fingerprinting, so I got tons of ink all over my hands! Then, we headed to the hospital where I had my blood test done on Monday, and had to go all over the place to pick up all these different ‘certificates’ just to find out that the last and more important place was closed! Just for the results we did all of this! Then, on the micro home, I felt feverish again.
So, the other day, Wara and I went to the I.C. Norte and decided to buy a 'whole chicken' of course little did we know what that REALLY meant! Imba (the name of the chicken/brand:)) had its head, lung, feet, etc!Well, the day started off okay. I got to school early, and signed in, went to my classroom to put my bag there and then headed to the chapel for teacher prayer time. ---- ok so it’s March 2nd and I have no idea what happened to the rest of that note…

I am going to put a couple of videos up of it on youtube one of these fine days!!!:)
I HAVE EATEN SALTEÑAS!

P.s.2. the 2/22/2008 blog is a video that I will eventually post on here or my youtube channel (youtube.com/booyahkashaa) :)

Busy, Busy, Busy!
2/24/08:
First of all: Happy Birthday Claire Bear!:)
Church was good today. I understood most of it and what I didn’t understand well I just tried to put the puzzle together.
Prayer request : Adela, the lady who’s living with us, is really struggling and not on good terms here. She’s got a cold, and has somehow lost her guaranteed job. Not sure what exactly the situation is there, but it’s not fair that’s for sure. Please, please, please pray for her! Wara tells me that she’s actually in the process of looking for a new church, and I know that she desperately is seeking a job or at least a way to move to the U.S. Thanks for your prayers! :)
After church, Wara and I got a ride from her dad’s cousins and they invited us over to eat. We had some yummy chicken, rice, and potatoes of course! Then, we watched a little bit of Happy Feet in Spanish! So cool! :) Then, before we left for the I.C. Norte (the grocery store), we got to play with their brand new puppies…I think that they just recently opened their eyes! They were so cute!
Then, after we were home for a bit I bundled up in rain gear and headed down town where I called Sarah! It was so great to hear her voice again. I got to talk to Rachael, Lela and Jesse too! So awesome! And the best part was that our 13 minute conversation cost me only B.9 which is less than $1.75! Then, I bought a 3 for 1 movie thing for like B.10 (less than $2)! p.s. Emma: Juno is a pretty good movie…I mean I so don’t value those morals but it’s pretty funny! I miss you!:(
2/25/08 :
I had to go to this public hospital/college place (where Wara goes to college) and had to get blood drawn! I thought that my HIV blood test would have sufficed, but they took that one, and did some other one too! The worst part was not the whole doing it again, but this time waiting for an hour outside in a line just to pay and not finding the lab…no, the worst part was that they didn’t have the ‘butterfly needle’ that works for me, and the nurse couldn’t find a vein in my right arm, so after poking around, had to go to my left arm. OW!!!!! :(
Then, I headed to school, and was not feeling good at all. I had a tres leches (awww, I really miss G.N.O. Sundays!:)), Fanta (hey I needed something like o.j. haha lol), and a saltena!!!! YUM! :)
Well, I wasn’t supposed to be at school long because Miss Shirley (the lady at the school that’s doing like ALL the visa paperwork for me), was supposed to bring me downtown for some paperwork, etc. But she never came! So, I just stayed teaching. Later, Mrs. Torrez (principal) came and told me about a kid who needed tutoring. So, after school, I met with the mom and she told me that she would need me for 2 hours a day, 3 times a week! Her son is in sixth grade here and is really behind. First off, two hours a day even for 3 days seemed like a lot…but then on the drive to her house, she asked me if I could also help her 15 year old daughter who goes to another school. So, I agreed.
Well, after I got dropped off, Wara, Eli and I hung out a bit, I watched Juno with them after Wara got back from college, and after we ate some anticuchos! (hint: ALLISON!:))
2/26/08:
Well, I had a hard time getting to work because Wara had all my money and she was going to exchange it today. Well, I eventually got to school, and was supposed to go downtown with either Ms. Shirley or this lawyer dude at the school. But I never left!
When I got to school, Mrs. Rivera? (the director of Arca de Noe…the preschool that Natalie went to when we lived here!), called me and asked if I’d want to run an hour long English program thingy at the preschool after school and before my tutoring job. I told her I wasn’t sure how it would all work, so she said that she would pick me up after school at 3:15 and bring me to the Arca, and show me around to help my decision.
So, 3 pm rolled around and the lawyer dude (don’t worry I’ll eventually know his name:) lol) came and told me we had to leave immediately to hand in paper work and such. So, I had to wait for Mrs. Janet (‘Rivera’), and tell her my situation! So, we talked, and she and I have decided to pray about it, because I really don’t want to just say ‘yes’ to every opportunity that come my way…I mean I do want to, but I know I wouldn’t be able to handle it! So, she left, and then Mrs. Torrez talked to me about kinder, and the kid I was going to tutor today, Jose Andres (accents missing on the ‘e’s). So, finally we were off to downtown (Interpol…?) where I got a picture taken, filled out some forms, and got fingerprinted! Then, we went to a bank where I exchanged some money… btw: exchanging rates lowered again! The rate is $1 to B. 7.58, but they only exchange at B. 7.45! So, I changed $50 and went home to change, and headed right back out to go tutor. The kid I tutor lives 6 kilometers away on Quillacollo…I’m at km. 8 and he’s at km.2 it’s working pretty sweet!
The kid is so sweet and a really good worker. He wasn’t distracted too much…only by his sisters who kept sitting by him and watching us work!
After tutoring, I went to the I.C. Norte and bought some milk (the bags go SO quickly! Lol) and bread…yum! Then, as I was waiting for a trufi, Eli came and I went with her to buy a gift for her grandma. Then, we went home. This leads us to now, where I am sitting here all alone at the kitchen table waiting for Wara to get back, or at least Eli. Adela won’t get home for at least another hour.
Well, T.T.F.N folks, hope you all are doing swell! I’ll write later! :)

Transportation Mania, Sickness, Sweet Blood, etc...:)
Day Twelve: 2/18/08:
Well, already I am beginning to lose track of the days that I have been here so this will be my last ‘day #...’ thingy…I am also purposely stopping at twelve, because that’s about how long I would like the young adult missions trip to be (which I will be posting the possible itinerary soon if any of you are interested:)).
Well, today was nothing special, I got up, went to the bus stop waited for the trufi, it didn’t come, so I took a taxi. The taxi driver was very inquisitive. He kept asking me things about my life, and more specifically my love life! It was very weird!
The next day was definitely more interesting though!
2/19/08:
I woke up around 6:30 am as always, and was at the bus stop by 6:55, but was on the trufi around 7:15, so I thought I was going to be late…well, long story short, when I got to the school, I noticed that I was the only one there…well, besides the security guy that looked as if he was leaving for the day/night. I soon began to fear that either I was really early, or it was a day off. Well, I sat in my classroom not knowing what to do. I would have looked at a clock but my cell phone was dead at home, and the office was locked. Plus, I was too nervous and embarrassed to leave my room because I really had no idea just how early it was. Well, eventually I saw more cars arriving, and so I headed to the office, where I found out that it was 7:20am! My alarm clock somehow got set an hour ahead! I first thought that Wara had played a trick on me, but she wouldn’t do that! :)
Oh yeah…I almost forgot! Then, after school I really had to exchange some more money. Jessica ‘Asbum’ and another teacher walked with me to a corner to change money, but they weren’t exchanging very well at all, so I just walked some more to a trufi stop. Then, I went with Patita near the correo (mail office) to see if the exchange would be better there…it wasn’t. So, finally, we just went to the i.c. norte (grocery store) and exchanged some there. It was the best deal! The street vendors and offices even were only offering me from B. 7.40 to 7.43 and the i.c. norte exchanged my money at 7.49 (exchange rate is $1-B. 7.58).
Yeah, so that was Tuesday! CRAZY!
2/20/08:
Wednesday was just a really tiring day for me. I went to school and then went home. Nothing much there. But that night we had a special service for teachers and parents to fill in on what’s happening at the school.
I got home around 4pm and was exhausted! I took a nap around 5:30. I was feeling really sick to my stomach. My stomach is still adjusting to the food here, so stomach aches are common and expected almost. I woke up late and luckily got a ride to the avenue to catch the trufi from a neighbor/old classmate of mine! So, as I stood there watching in the dark for my trufi, I was feeling just horrible!
Well, I eventually made it to the Capilla. I was late, but I made it. Mrs. Caero drove me home and we talked a lot about what herb pills/supplements I should take, etc.
Then, I got home and couldn’t go back to sleep. That’s why I don’t take naps because I can’t fall asleep at night. But I did some stuff on the computer and had some good journaling times! :)
2/21/08:
Today. I left for the bus stop in good time, but when I got to the stop I was waiting for almost 20 minutes and the trufi still never came. Well, actually one or two did, but they were jammed packed. So finally I just took a taxi to school and found out that there was a blockage a couple kilometers away! As we drove, I saw hundreds of people waiting for trufis all along the avenue! It was crazy! Oh and of course the taxi driver was once again very inquisitive about my love life…and get this…he even said that thing that I hate to hear. He told me I might find my husband down here!! Wow!
Well, school was just school, I got to leave early because it’s Thursday.
The way back home took about 2.5 hours or more. I was at my regular bus stop for almost an hour and no trufi! I was pretty frustrated, so I decided to just walk to the next big area where I knew the trufi went. But I was there for almost an hour too. So finally I just took another taxi home. This time, the taxi driver didn’t ask my about my life, etc. Instead, he asked me to help him write down some telephone number he needed to call, and asked to borrow my cell phone! WEIRD! Haha
So, I have pretty much determined that I have the worst luck when it comes to transportation here! I did finally get home (obviously:)) and then found out that my forehead, nose and ears got sun burnt! I just recently began to feel my forehead’s sunburn while Eli and Wara and I watched a movie!
Wara made me put some tomato slices on the burn because when I put ice on it it had melted too fast! I’ll try to remember to post those pictures of the tomato on my forehead when I have better internet access.
Well, I think that’s all for now. I miss and love ya’ll and see most of you in July! :)

YAY for Bolivia!
Day Seven: 2/13/08:
On the seventh day, I looked at the ‘American Clothes’ for a khaki skirt. However, we (Adela and I) were not successful. Not much happened this day. I took a micro (public bus) back home after Adela showed me where the correo was, etc. We also had some YUMMY fresh orange juice!!!!
Once I arrived back home, I pretty much did nothing! Hehe
Day Eight: 2/14/08:
HAPPY VALENTINES DAY!
Today, I just hung out with Wara after school, and we bought khaki fabric for my uniform. Then, we headed to a tailor from church and I got sized. That was definitely a first for me! :)That’s pretty much it for that day!:)
Day Nine: 2/15/08:
I thought I didn’t have any bolivianos left, so I had to take a taxi to school…of course once I got in the taxi I realized I had some smaller bills after all! No matter. After school, I went to a fitting for my uniforms and then got lost trying to find my way back home. I ended up at the Cancha again! :) I eventually found the bus terminal and went home. I had about a twenty minute nap and then went to Eli’s house for a sleepover! There we watched most of License to Wed and all of Sydney White (Siempre Blancanieve). Luckily for me we watched them in English with Spanish subtitles!
We made some homemade pizza with ham and green olives!! YUM!!!!
Day Ten: 2/16/08:
Yesterday (Saturday), we had a teacher’s retreat at a beautiful hotel near Lago Langostura (sp?). I woke up around 6:20 am, exhausted at Eli’s house, and I did not sleep too well either, my hip was so sore from sleeping! We took two buses from the Capilla and had breakfast there. Then, we went to a ‘meeting room’ that was actually the lobby and was covered in curtains to make it look like a room! Haha. So, there we had a few worship songs, and then Pastor Roger talked about Leadership and the sort. We ate lunch, hung out for about an hour just chillaxin’ around the hotel, etc. We then returned to the ‘meeting room’ and moved our chairs into a circle to have a group discussion about school and such. There was some teacher drama, and then we left around 6p.m. It was quite a long day.
When we returned to the Capilla, I had to wait for Mrs. Caero to finish up choir practice, and then she drove me home. While I was there, I went to look for this one bench that my6 granddad had painted when he visited us years ago…but sadly it was no longer there! :(
Day Eleven: 2/17/08:
Second week at Church. Wara and I were late! We were both so tired, and had overslept. However, it was fine because it seemed like when we got there worship was just ending, so we got to get there when pastor started preaching. I was so excited all service because we had been planning on going out to eat saltenas (note the missing accent on the ‘n’)<.small>, but we got out too late and no places would have had any good saltenas left! :( I was so sad! Then, to make it even worse…they told me I’d have to wait until Saturday! Ay Ay AY!!!!! Que triste!!!!! VERY SAD DAY!
Wara and I went to eat with the Meruvias again. This time we went to ‘Churasqueria Tunari’ and had some yummy steak, fries, yuca, and ‘arroz con queso’ (rice with cheese)! YUMMY!
I also picked up my khaki skirt, pants, and my green pants from the tailor! It cost B. 130 (roughly $17!)
Well, that’s pretty much it for now.
Oh yeah, and by the way, I have heard SO many people always mention ‘Kissells’, talking about how no one was ever like my dad and no teacher has ever been like my mom. Wow! Kinda weird sometimes when I keep hearing how great they were and especially when they compare my parents to the current teachers and how the school is run. WEIRD!
Also: Mosquitoes are REALLY bad here! They absolutely love me! Yikes!! Hehe
Love,
Emily:)

Yikes!! Hehe
Love,
Emily:)
I'm here in Bolivia Part Dos!
Well, much has happened since I last wrote a note/bulletin. :)
Day Four: 2/10/2008:
This past Sunday I went to the Capilla (church). It was very much the same. We still sit on those cushions and still enter whenever we can :). Our worship lasted about an hour…which was a big change since from LifeChurch. It was very good.
After church I went out to eat with the Meruvias (Patita is their daughter and we were GOOD friends!) We ate at Globos (kind of like Dumbos) and I ordered a silpancho. I thought that it was just a regular sized silpancho for like one person… boy was I wrong! It was most definitely NOT for just one person. I struggled just eating half of it! It was good though.:) After Globos, Wara, Patita and I just hung out at her house. It was fun! Sorry I can’t describe it any other way…haha.
Day Five: 2/11/2008:
FIRST DAY AT WORK! It went ok…to begin I was LATE! We totally miscalculated Trufi time! oops! Other than that though…it went ok…I didn’t really do anything at all. I barely taught. I told the kids to write their names, and color a circle red. Seriously that’s all I did. Then, I talked with Mrs. Torres and ate lunch at the Capilla with her and other office staff.
After work, Wara, Patita, and I went to the Cancha (the market place) to buy me some stuff. We were only there for a few hours and managed to buy me a green suit thingy for work and a cell phone! YAY! Thank goodness for the cell phone! For you Bolivianos my number is: 769-54582.
Day Six: 2/12/2008:
Second day at work and I was late again! I thought I could make it there by Trufi (public transportation…they’re like minivans). But I got off on the wrong stop, walked around, called Wara, walked around some more, crossed a bunch of roads and got on what I thought was the same trufi. However, I ended up getting on the one that brought me back home! So, I got off again, crossed the road, got on the next Trufi, and got off on the RIGHT stop, and just took a taxi the rest of the way! I was about 1.5 hours late this time! Mrs. Torrez was nice about it because I had gotten lost.
This time, I did teach my class. We have about 22 kindergarteners, so we split the group. Group A has English first, and then Group B. We got through about 3 pages each in the L.I.F.E.P.A.C.S. It was a lot of fun. Then, I had lunch with the 3rd grade teacher, who I helped out the rest of the day. (p.s. Allison: Jessika Asbum…well, I don’t know her newlast name…is the 4th grade teacher…she says hi:))
So, that brings us to right now, and I am once again on my bed writing this…but now I have a memory stick and am going to load these two notes online!
Ciao!

p.s. dial up sucks!!! :)

Second time around FIRSTS!
Well, my familia, I’m finally here in my beloved Bolivia! The trip here was VERY long, but I enjoyed it nonetheless. For those of you who didn’t hear, I didn’t leave MN until the 7th…a whole day later. I was scheduled to leave on the 6th, but due to the foot and a half of snow in Chicago, and because that day’s flight to Dallas was booked, I had to leave the next day. Which turned out to be perfect, because it gave me a chance to go to church once more and Pablo (Wara’s younger brother)’s cell phone arrived from eBay so my parents didn’t have to ship it down! I also got the Christmas card and gift from my cousin that day….and my paycheck! So, pretty much all in all it was a very successful day.
Day One: 2/7/2008
I got to the airport around 11:30 am, and had no problems going to my gate. For breakfast I had some yummy Chinese food. :) Then, we took off around 1:30, arriving in Dallas around 4. When we got to Dallas, I had to quick get out of the plane, and rush to my next gate because I had only 40 minutes to find it and board. I got to take the sky train thing and got to my gate only to find that it was overbooked and so they were handing out some vouchers.
So, around 5:25 we took off and landed in Miami around 8:45pm. I got off the plane and walked around like 20 minutes in this boring, deserted hallway to gate E. My only option for food was pizza hut. I used up all my calling cards there at a phone booth...calling my parents about the carryon problem on my previous flight (oh yeah…it had to get checked all the way to Santa Cruz because there were no more overhead bins with room ).
Then, around 10:45 or so, about 20 minutes before my plane was scheduled to leave, I go up to the front desk to find out if I could possibly get my carryon back…but instead I find out that I was at the wrong gate…they switched it to Gate D. So, I rushed to Gate D…praying that my asthma wouldn’t act up in this humidity…because my inhaler, etc. were in my checked carryon! I actually made it to the plane just in time. The doors closed behind me and a few others! They were checking the rest of the people in the line’s carry ons below, so that pretty much answered my question! So, we took off for VVI, via La Paz around 11:20pm!
Day Two: 2/8/2008
Finally, around 7am, we arrived in LA PAZ, BOLIVIA! my very first views of Bolivia are posted below from a plane window!:)
I was at the VVI airport (Santa Cruz Bolivia) for almost 4 hours!! SO BORING! (I took some pictures while I was there, and they are also posted below!:))
I called Wara at the VVI airport and checked some emails online…only had ten minutes though. IT WAS SO SO SO HOT!!! Then, I got some ice cream cappuccino drink and also saw ‘Raquel’…who recognized me, but I didn’t know who she was. I mean I recognized her too, but couldn’t remember anything…she said her mom worked at the Capilla…so for you Capilla alums and students do you remember her? I should have taken a picture of her…but wow…didn’t even cross my mind for some reason! :(
I arrived in my beloved Cochabamba around 3pm…had some trouble getting my luggage…I let it go around like 4 times before I finally realized it was mine and around one more time before I finally grabbed it! I got all four of my bags no problems. I walked out into the beautiful Cochabamba airport with Wara, Patita, Eli, Mr. Camacho, and Mrs. Torres! It was so bright! I was SO HAPPY!!! I was pretty warm there too. Then, Mr. Camacho, Wara, and I went to eat at the Asbum’s (sp?) house. YUMMY!!!! I even got to have an amazingly fresh peach!!! SO GOOD! Then, we headed to the Camacho’s house and I got myself settled in and organized all my stuff. Their house is so big and amazing! I love it!
I cannot believe this all actually happened! I half expected myself to wake up this morning (2/9) and see my room in MN!! :)
Day Three: 2/9/2008:
I am currently sitting on my bed here typing this and wondering where/when on earth I will be able to post this on facebook and myspace. Today, I slept in until about 12pm, and no one is home. Wara left me a note saying she’d be back around 12…but it is now 3:45…so, who knows…hehe I am going to hang out with some of my girl friends from school today…hopefully. Today is Carnaval and there are marches, and people throwing balloons…I remember going to the corner stores in Bolivia before Carnaval and filling up water balloons with my neighbors and sisters! Fun Times! We used to go out driving around the city with big ole’ buckets in out truck and throw them at people…but then one time Allison got hit by a really hard one, and we never got to go out again! :(
But yeah, anyway, today for breakfast I had some yummy Bolivian bread and pil brand milk!!! YAY!!! :)
So, I’m going to end this now…it’s about 3:50pm….so, yeah hasta luego peeps!:)
Love,
Emily:)
